In the end, it is much better to address the problem early on rather than waiting until even more damage is done. A water heater is heavy and awkward so, if you are uncomfortable working with it, you can always hire a maintenance professional to handle the maintenance and repairs for you. It is very important to have a water heater inspected several times each year. Otherwise, you may wake up one morning and find yourself standing on soaking wet carpet.
